Food Remedies
Main remedy
Mausami (sweet lemon): a nourishing fruit whose juice restores strength. Warm the juice slightly and add 5 drops of ginger juice for better effect. Avoid on a full stomach, in excessive urination, or in diarrhea.
One steamed modak (rice flour shell, jaggery-coconut filling) as the morning sweet — steamed, not fried, it gives sustained strength; the traditional monsoon energy food.
Traditional
मशरूम · Mushroom
Sun-exposed mushrooms are one of the few vegetarian sources of vitamin D, with B-vitamins and protein — a mushroom-pea sabzi rebuilds strength.
Traditional
मौसमी · Sweet Lemon
One mausami (sweet lime) or half a cup of its fresh juice, taken in the daytime.
Traditional
दालें · Lentils
Thin dal water from moong or masoor with a pinch of salt and ghee, twice daily — the most digestible food after illness.
Traditional
मेवे · Nuts
A handful of nuts and dates in the morning — they restore strength quickly.
Traditional
अंजीर · Fig
Figs boiled in milk at night, steadily for four weeks.
Traditional
मटर · Green peas
A bowl of green peas with the midday meal — cheap plant protein with B vitamins and iron. In debility, protein at every meal matters more than any tonic.
Traditional
अश्वगंधा काढ़ा · Ashwagandha kadha
1/2 tsp ashwagandha in warm milk at night for six weeks — the classical balya rasayana. It builds slowly, so judge it at six weeks, not six days.
Traditional
मोरिंगा चाय · Moringa tea
1 tsp moringa leaf powder in a cup of warm water each morning — iron, calcium and protein together in one cheap leaf. Start with half a spoon; a full one can loosen the stool.
